Patrick Maroon is the third piece of the Anaheim Ducks' top line, skating most nights alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He's a big piece of that Ducks offense as a result, and it looks like he might miss some time after a scary-looking knee injury suffered during the second period Monday afternoon in Buffalo.
Maroon was checked by Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges. As you can see below, he went a little low and it looks like his backside or thigh made impact with Maroon's left knee.
Matt Beleskey has replaced Maroon on the top line, and the Ducks have confirmed that he's out for the remainder of the game with a lower-body injury. He was helped off the ice by teammates and he wasn't putting any weight on that left leg as he went off.
Meanwhile, as the game carries on without Maroon, Gorges has been a marked man on basically every shift. Would you call that a dirty hit given how low Gorges went, or just an unfortunate play?
