The Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings played one of the most exciting (and fun!) overtime periods of the season. The teams traded opportunities and had opportunities to end it in the added five minutes.
Don't just take my word for it though, check out the stop Lightning goalie Ben Bishop made against Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall when he had a golden opportunity.
As if that wasn't exciting enough, look at the save Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard made against Lightning rookie Jonathan Drouin with his toe to keep Tampa Bay from winning in overtime.
With all that excitement packed into five minutes, no one was able to secure a goal to win it and the game was sent to the shootout. Fans love the shootout (or so we're told) and surely the excitement would only surpass what happened in overtime ...
Oh.
Ryan Callahan scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Lightning a 4-3 win. While that was pretty nifty in and of itself, it paled in comparison to how wild overtime was.
Gee, it's too bad there's not another means of finding a way to end the game before going to the skills competition to settle matters ...
