Men's
Slovenia 3, Slovakia 1
For the first time ever at the Olympics, Slovenia won a game. Anze Kopitar, the only NHL player on the Slovenian team, scored his team's third goal, and Robert Kristan stopped 27 out of 28 shots to preserve the win. The game went scoreless through the first two periods before Slovenia scored three goals in just under six minutes to put things out of reach for Slovakia.
United States 3, Russia 2 (USA wins shootout 4-3 in 8 rounds)
T.J. Oshie is a top player when it comes to shootouts in the NHL. He showed off those skills in a crucial win over Russia, scoring on four out of six of his shootout attempts, and lifting the United States past the host Russians. Jonathan Quick was also instrumental for the Americans, stopping an Ilya Kovalchuk bid to set up Oshie for the game-winner.
Switzerland 1, Czech Republic 0
For the third time this tournament, Switzerland found itself a part of a 1-0 result, and Jonas Hiller was the goalie of record once again. The Swiss came out on top, defeating the Czech Republic 1-0. Hiller and Ondrej Pavelec dueled it out in net, each making 25 saves, but Hiller got the better of the Czech goalie.
Sweden 5, Latvia 2
Sweden's offense was paced by four power play goals, and another strong game from Erik Karlsson led the Swedes to a sweep of Group C with a 5-2 win over Latvia. Early in the second period, Latvia took a 2-1 lead, marking the first time all tournament Sweden had trailed, but the Swedes would go on to score three straight and never look back.
Women's
Sweden 4, Finland 2
In one of the only upsets on the women's side, Sweden got strong play in goal from Valentina Wallner, setting up a semifinal matchup with the United States for the Swedes. Finland was led by Noora Raty, possibly the best female goaltender in the world, who announced after the game she's retiring from women's hockey.
Switzerland 2, Russia 0
The host Russians were eliminated from the women's tournament behind a strong performance in goal from Florence Schelling. The Swiss netminder stopped all 41 Russian shots, while Switzerland scored midway through the first period and held on the rest of the way. In the semifinals, Switzerland will face off against Canada.
