Winter Olympics 2014 hockey results: Czech Republic, Russia, Slovenia and Latvia advance to quarterfinal

The quarterfinal round of the men's ice hockey tournament is set, as four teams advanced to the next stage after wins in the qualification round on Tuesday.

The quarterfinal round of the men's ice hockey tournament has been set for the 2014 Winter Olympics, as the qualification round advanced four nations to the next step of the journey.

The host nation, Russia, managed to handily defeat Norway, 4-0, while the Slovenians managed the same result against the Austrians. Latvia managed an upset of sorts, as the club defeated the Swiss, 3-1. Slovakia toyed with the potential of a monumental comeback, but were unable to complete the endeavor, falling to the Czech Republic, 5-3.

Here's a look at the games:

Russia 4, Norway 0

Alexander Radulov registered two goals in Tuesday's contest, including the game-winner, as Russia advanced to face Finland in the quarterfinal round. Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexander Tarasenko also scored goals, as netminder Sergei Bobrovsky compiled a 22-save shutout.

Slovenia 4, Austria 0

Anze Kopitar scored the game-winning goal, as Slovenia advanced to face top-seeded Sweden in the quarterfinal round. Jan Urbas, Sabahudin Kovacevic and Jan Mursak also recorded goals, while Robert Kristian registered a 30-save shutout.

Latvia 3, Switzerland 1

Swiss goaltender Jonas Hiller had not allowed a single goal-against in the preliminary round of the tournament, but surrendered two goals in the first period of Tuesday's game. The deficit proved to be too much for the Swiss, as the club could only muster one goal, which came from Martin Pluss in the second period. Latvia's goals came from Oskars Bartulis and Lauris Darzins, who registered two goals.

Latvia will face Canada on Wednesday.

Czech Republic 5, Slovakia 3

The Czech Republic scored four consecutive goals before the Slovaks attempted a failed comeback. Roman Cervenka scored two goals for the Czechs, including one of the prettiest strikes of the tournament thus far. David Krejci and Ales Hemsky also registered tallies, then Marian Hossa scored consecutive goals for the Slovaks. Tomas Survoy narrowed the Czech Republic's lead to one only 90 seconds after Hossa cut it in half, which set the stage for an exciting an end to to the game. However, Tomas Plekanec put to rest any hopes of a dramatic finish when he scored an empty-net goal in the final minute.

The Czech Republic will meet the United States on Wednesday.
