Steve Mason flashes the leather

You never know what you're going to get from goalies in any individual game. Sometimes they surprise you.

Relying on Steve Mason in a must-win game doesn't seem like the best situation to be in given his career numbers, but goalies are weird beings and on any given night average ones can play great, and great ones can be awful.

Through the first 30 minutes of Game 6 on Tuesday, Mason was brilliant for the Flyers and made his best save of the night in the second period, when he robbed Rangers forward Benoit Pouliot on a partial breakaway with this quick glove save.

The Flyers were ahead 2-0 at that point and in the process of killing a penalty, so a Rangers goal would have obviously been a big shift in the game. The save ended up shifting the game in a different direction. Moments later the floodgates opened for Philadelphia when Erik Gustafsson came out of the penalty box and beat Henrik Lundqvist on a breakaway to make it 3-0.

Wayne Simmonds completed a hat trick when he scored yet another power play goal while standing right in front of the crease to make it 4-0 heading into the third period.
