Bruins Brad Marchand to miss Winter Classic with 3 game suspension

A heavy suspension for a reckless hit.

Boston will be without key forward Brad Marchand when it takes the ice in Foxborough on Friday for the 2016 Winter Classic. Marchand will be serving a three-game suspension thanks to his violently unnecessary hit on Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki in the Bruins game against the Senators Tuesday night.

The NHL released a video on the suspension, which details the low, clipping hit from Marchand that flipped Borowiecki onto his head.

The Senators defenseman was not injured on the play, but the NHL's Department of Player Safety deemed the hit worthy of a suspension that will keep Marchand out of the Winter Classic on Friday plus two additional games between the Capitals and the Devils in the new year.

This isn't Marchand's first go-around with a suspension for this type of hit, as he was given a five-gamer after clipping Canucks defenseman Sami Salo in a similar manner back in 2012.
