Vancouver Canucks forward Zack Kassian violated the number one rule when fighting in hockey: don't involve the linesmen.
Kassian was ejected from Vancouver's game on Saturday after a heated tussle between the Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs. When a scrum erupted in the middle of the second period near the Leafs' net, Kassian was right in the middle of it. The bruising winger was particularly upset with Leafs' captain Dion Phaneuf.
Unfortunately, Kassian didn't consider how he was involving the referees. At one point, he even began violently tugging on a referee's jersey as the ref was trying to get out of his grasp.
Obviously, Kassian was sent off with a ten-minute misconduct and a game misconduct. Whether the NHL steps in for further discipline is another matter that should be settled next week.
