Red Wings goaltender injured by own player in dangerous pileup

Detroit and Tampa Bay are now left with their backup netminders.

Nick Jensen is not having a good NHL debut. Just 12 minutes into his first career NHL game, his shot that went wide of the cage injured Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop.

Then less than 30 minutes into his first NHL game, Jensen accidentally took out his own goaltender in a pileup in front of the Red Wings net.

Erik Condra and Jensen toppled hard on Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, who was in immediate pain as a pair of players fell right onto his legs.

Trainers were called onto the ice right after the play, and Howard had to be escorted off the ice because he could not put pressure on his right leg.

Petr Mrazek then took the net for Howard after 24 minutes of play.
