Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov has never been suspended by the NHL. He can probably expect a hearing after an illegal check to the head against the New York Rangers on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the waning seconds of the first period. As Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh handled the puck in the offensive zone, Komarov (who was trailing the play) approached from behind and blindsided McDonagh in the head.
From the second angle it's apparent not only that the principle point of contact was the head, but that Komarov sort of lunged high for the hit.
McDonagh was bloodied and didn't return for the second period. Any suspension for Komarov would be a further blow in a dismal season for the Leafs. The forward is the team's highest scorer with 35 points.
