Panthers acquire Jiri Hudler and Teddy Purcell in trades with Flames and Oilers

If you thought the Chicago Blackhawks were the busiest team leading up to the 2016 NHL Deadline, just wait until you hear what the Florida Panthers accomplished on Saturday.

Panthers GM Dale Tallon was a busy man as the weekend began, snatching up three players in three different trades from three different teams in the span of an hour.

First, the Panthers acquired winger Jiri Hudler from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a second round pick in 2016 and a fourth round pick in 2018. Although Hudler is having a down season (just 35 points in 53 games), he scored 31 goals a year ago and can slot in nicely as a compliment to Jaromir Jagr, Nick Bjugstad, Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau in the Panthers' top six.

Less than 20 minutes later, the Panthers traded a third round pick for Edmonton Oilers winger Teddy Purcell. Purcell was rumored to be headed to the Los Angeles Kings earlier in the day, but apparently the Panthers came on stronger for the veteran.

LAK was close to landing Purcell. Based on last night's correspondence, trade held up by unwillingness for prospect included > EDM to sign.

And to top it all off, the Panthers acquired defenseman Jakub Kindl from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a late-round draft pick.
