This may shock you, but the Chicago Blackhawks will play in another NHL Winter Classic.
The NHL revealed on Wednesday that the St. Louis Blues will host the defending champions in the 2017 Winter Classic at Busch Stadium on Jan. 2. In addition, the league announced the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins would play at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh as one of the 2017 Stadium Series games.
It will be the first Winter Classic for the Blues but the third overall for the Blackhawks, who participated in the 2009 and 2015 events as well. And since the Blackhawks just played the Minnesota Wild in the 2016 Stadium Series game in Minneapolis, the 2017 Winter Classic will be the fourth outdoor game for the franchise in as many years, and their fifth overall.
Holding the Classic in St. Louis makes sense considering the Blues will be in the midst of their 50th season as a franchise in 2017.
Both the Penguins and Flyers have participated in two Winter Classics; the Penguins in 2008 and 2011, and the Flyers in 2010 and 2012.
