Blues goaltender sprawls to make improbable stick save on Blackhawks

Jake Allen did his morning stretches.

Chicago Blackhawks rookie Artemi Panarin got a little slap-shot happy during the third period, and only quick reflexes kept him out of the net.

The Blackhawks were leading the St. Louis Blues 1-0 when Panarin took two powerful slap shots from the left circle. Blues goalie Jake Allen had no problem with the first one, but the second attempt caught him off-guard and looked certain to go in.

But Allen's stick came out of nowhere to keep it out.

Minutes later, the Blues tied the game and eventually took the lead. And that is why Jake Allen is the unofficial Blues starter as the season winds down.
