Nicklas Backstrom makes incredible mid-air pass to Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin nearly scored on the amazing play.

If you're not a Washington Capitals fan or die-hard hockey fan, you might know Nicklas Backstrom as that guy from the Geico commercials.

If you were watching the end of regulation in Game 1 on Thursday, you now know him as "THAT GUY WHO MADE THAT RIDICULOUS PASS."

With the game tied and minutes left in the third, Backstrom flipped a mid-air pass to Alex Ovechkin for a prime scoring chance on Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray:


If Murray doesn't save it, that play goes down as the best of the playoffs so far. As it is, it's just one of the best passing plays in the NHL all season. Not bad.
