For the first time since 2001, the Blues are headed to the Western Conference Final after taking Game 7 away from the Stars by a score of 6-1.
Kari Lehtonen allowed three goals in the first period as the Blues were able to roll to their second consecutive Game 7 victory.
An early power play goal got the Blues started at 5:23 of the first period. Robby Fabbri got a backhand swipe on the puck in the midst of a scramble in the crease that beat Lehtonen high as the netminder was looking for the puck in the blue paint.
St. Louis thought they had doubled the lead on a bad-angle goal from Vladimir Tarasenko after surviving a Stars push. However, a coaches challenge reversed the call as the right winger was deemed to be offside just moments prior on Jaden Schwartz's zone entry.
The nullified goal ended up not mattering for the Blues, who scored two goals in the final two minutes of the period in quick succession. Paul Stastny got the first one, at an even worse angle than Tarasenko's at the side of the cage, that made it 2-0 hardly minutes after the overturned call.
Patrik Berglund capped off the three-goal first period for the Blues. A shot from the point beat Lehtonen clean as the Stars goaltender couldn't seal off the angle and keep the puck out blocker side.
Dallas went for a goaltending change between periods one and two, subbing in Antti Niemi after Lehtonen allowed three goals on eight shots in the first. The Blues kept pushing in the second and added another to put the Stars behind 4-0. Captain David Backes beat Niemi off the rush on the blocker side four minutes into the second for his sixth goal of the postseason.
Troy Brouwer made it 5-0 for the Blues as time was winding down in the second period. Crisp passing between St. Louis in the offensive zone paid off as Brouwer deposited the puck past Niemi's glove as the forward was uncovered coming down the right wing.
Dallas broke Brian Elliott's shutout five minutes into the third on Patrick Eaves' goal that opened the scoring for the Stars. A lucky deflection off a skate came right to Eaves at the side of the goal for the quick 5-1 tap in strike.
Tarasenko added an empty net tally late to seal the 6-1 Blues win.
