2016 Stanley Cup Final schedule: Sharks vs. Penguins starts Monday in Pittsburgh

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins outlasted the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday night, advancing to the 2016 Stanley Cup Final. The Penguins will face the Western Conference champion San Jose Sharks beginning Monday night at home in Pittsburgh.

The Penguins are back in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2009, when they won their third championship in franchise history.

The Sharks earned their first-ever berth in the Stanley Cup Final with their 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night, closing out the Western Conference Final in six games.

Both San Jose and Pittsburgh are 12-6 this postseason. By virtue of their 104-point season, the Penguins (48-26-8) have home-ice advantage in the best-of-seven series over the 98-point Sharks (46-30-6). The Penguins are 7-3 on their home ice at Consol Energy Center this postseason.

These two teams split their two regular season meetings in 2015-2016, with each team winning on the road. The Sharks prevailed 3-1 in Pittsburgh on Nov. 21, and the Penguins returned the favor with a 5-1 victory in San Jose on Dec. 1.

The Stanley Cup Final will be televised by NBC and NBCSN, with online coverage available through NBC Sports Live Extra.
