Pittsburgh Penguins raise second consecutive Stanley Cup banner in home opener

The back-to-back NHL champions begin the season after a traditional ceremony.

It’s opening night of the 2017-18 NHL season, but the Pittsburgh Penguins have one last piece of championship hardware to raise before the slates are cleaned. Against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, the Penguins raised their Stanley Cup banner to the rafters of PPG Paints Arena.

A sold-out crowd welcomed the Penguins back home after their second consecutive Stanley Cup victory. First, the team showed this video chronicling their road to their third Stanley Cup win in nine seasons.

After a light show worthy of any high-end concert and player introductions, the real ceremony began.

Sidney Crosby, of course, brought the Stanley Cup out in its full glory to kick off the banner raising ceremony.

With a full crowd and waiting players, the Penguins raised their Stanley Cup banner up to the rafters.

Not a bad collection up there, Pittsburgh. Enjoy being back-to-back champions!
