Everyone’s favorite NHL referee is back with another suspenseful call

We love Wes McCauley’s antics.

Wes McCauley is a very, very good NHL referee. He’s been in the league for over 10 seasons and continues to delight as much as an NHL referee can in an unenviable position.

Last season, McCauley had a very famous, dramatic penalty call after a fight between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins. On Tuesday, McCauley brought back the dramatics for a hilarious call.

I’m not sure what’s the best part here. McCauley’s blank expression while waiting to announce the call, putting his hand over his mic pack in a potential fake out, or the dramatic pause that had everyone in Madison Square Garden silent for a long second.

The New York Rangers were the beneficiaries of McCauley’s call, as the home team was given a goal on the play that went to a review. Still, McCauley’s dramatics weren’t the only memorable aspects of the night for Rangers fans, as New York bested the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 4-1.

Keep these suspense calls coming, McCauley. We absolutely adore them.
