Matt Murray injured in warmups for Penguins, Marc-Andre Fleury starts Game 1

Injury woes have struck Pittsburgh again.

In an eerie echo of how the Penguins started their last playoff run, Matt Murray will not play in Pittsburgh’s opening postseason game due to injury.

The 22-year-old was announced as the starter earlier in the day, but an apparent injury in warmups before Game 1 against the Blue Jackets took him off Wednesday night’s roster completely.

Tristan Jarry, a 21-year-old, will back up Marc-Andre Fleury in Pittsburgh as the Penguins start their quest to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

Last year, Murray was injured just before the playoffs and Fleury was on the road to recovery from one of his own. In their Game 1 against the Rangers, Jeff Zatkoff started — and won — the playoff opener.

Murray missed a few practices in the lead up to the playoffs, though no injury was reported at the time.
