Patrice Bergeron needs a bigger shelf.
The Boston Bruins center took home another Selke Trophy on Wednesday during the NHL Awards for his 2017-18 season. The Selke is awarded to the best defensive forward in the NHL.
Bergeron beat out two staunch finalists for the win: Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Kesler and Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu.
This is the fourth Selke win for Bergeron, making him the second-ever four-time winner of the award. He joins Hall of Fame member Bob Gainey in that distinction. Bergeron took home the Selke in 2012, 2014, and 2015.
Bergeron, 31, was again one of the league’s best face-off men with an NHL-best 1,089 wins and a third-best 60.1 winning percentage. The veteran eclipsed the 20-goal mark for the fourth straight season while boasting the best even-strength possession numbers (a monstrous 61.8 Corsi For %) of his career.
Compared to his Selke competitors, Bergeron was a better offensive generator.
Here’s the voting breakdown for the Selke Trophy as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association:
