With training camps and preseason puck drop around the corner in less than a month, NHL teams are starting to tidy up their offseason plans. While most of the big moves have been made, minus a few key RFA signings, some NHL teams may take fliers on veterans with professional tryout contracts, or PTOs.
The use of PTOs is commonplace in the NHL at this time of the summer. It’s a great way to pick up a player for training camp at no cost to the team, and a last-ditch effort for veterans looking to extend their NHL careers. If it leads to a permanent contract for both sides, great, and otherwise, they can move on without any major cost.
We’ve already seen a few teams pick up players on PTOs, but there are bound to be more within the next month. We’ll keep this list regularly updated as new tryout deals are reported and announced.
