These were the two top point-getters in the NHL standings this year. Nashville is trying to get back to the conference final for the second year in a row (and second time in franchise history), while the modern Jets have never even gotten this far before. Every game Winnipeg wins is a new playoff high water mark for a reborn team that spawned from the Atlanta Thrashers a half-decade ago. For the first time ever, this team’s really good.
Nashville is playing at home, and thus a slight favorite. Both teams have been up and down all series, which is why they’re about to play a seventh game. Both have gotten a couple of elite individual efforts, too. The Jets’ Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler have combined for 18 points in the six games, and the Predators’ Filip Forsberg and Ryan Johansen have for 17.
The conference final will start Saturday, with the Knights visiting this game’s winner for a 7 p.m. ET faceoff on NBC.
