Purdue vs. Michigan State, Big Ten championship 2016: Odds, lines and betting preview

The red-hot Michigan State Spartans are set to take on the Purdue Boilermakers in the Big Ten title game on Sunday.

The Michigan State Spartans are surging towards the NCAA Tournament with a 12-1 straight up and against the spread record in their last 13 games. On Sunday, the Spartans will try to wrap up their conference season with a win in the Big Ten Tournament final against the Purdue Boilermakers.

Michigan State is a 4-point betting favorite for Sunday at sportsbooks monitored by In their last 11 games as a favorite of five points or less, the Spartans are a perfect 11-0 SU with a 9-2 ATS record.

The Spartans' 64-61 win over the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday marked the first time that the team had failed to win by double digits in its last eight games. Over the course of Michigan State's current 12-1 SU and ATS run, the Spartans have averaged 82.7 points per game while allowing only 63.8 points per game, winning games by an average margin of nearly 20 points per game.

Michigan State will try to enter the NCAA Tournament with one more statement win on Sunday.

The one loss in Michigan State's last 13 games came on the road against the Boilermakers back in February. Even with that loss, Michigan State is 7-1 SU and ATS in its last eight games against Purdue per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.

Purdue's inconsistent play through Big Ten conference action led to the team landing a No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 12-6 conference record. The Boilermakers entered the final week of February with a 4-4 SU and 2-6 ATS record in its previous eight games. But since beating Maryland 83-79 at home, Purdue has gone 5-0 SU and 4-0-1 ATS in its last five games with four straight double-digit wins.

Sunday's total is set at 143 points. Each of the last seven games between these two teams has gone OVER the posted total.

Michigan State could earn its third Big Ten Tournament title in the last five years with a win on Sunday. Purdue knows it can beat the Spartans after doing so the last time these two met, but without home court advantage, another win over Michigan State is going to be tough to pull off. The game is set for a 3 p.m ET start.
