The George Washington Colonials are 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread in four NIT games including two outright upsets. To win the tournament, the Colonials will need one more upset win this Thursday against the Valparaiso Crusaders at Madison Square Garden.
George Washington is a 2-point betting underdog in Thursday's final at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This will be Valparaiso's 30th straight game as a betting favorite, with the Crusaders going 24-5 SU and 14-15 ATS over that stretch.
For the third straight time this postseason, the No. 4 George Washington Colonials knocked off a higher seed to advance in the NIT. After going on the road to take down No. 1 Monmouth and No. 2 Florida to win Region 4, the Colonials relished the opportunity to play at a neutral location with a 65-46 blowout win over the No. 2 San Diego State Aztecs on Tuesday night.
It was a surprisingly dominant performance on defense for the Colonials, who had allowed an average of 76 points through their first three games of the tournament.
The Colonials are 2-0 SU and ATS as underdogs this postseason. They were 0-4 SU and ATS in their previous four games as underdogs per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.
Valparaiso rolled through Region 2 with three double-digit wins, beating No. 8 Texas Southern 84-73, No. 4 Florida State 81-69 and No. 2 Saint Mary's 60-44.
It wasn't that easy in Tuesday's semifinal against the No. 2 BYU Cougars, who erased a 16-point deficit to take a late lead over the Crusaders. But a go-ahead three-pointer with 20 seconds left in the game proved to be enough for Valparaiso to hold on for a win, and to prove that the team could overcome some adversity as well.
The Crusaders are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games, but just 2-5 ATS in their last seven.
Thursday's total is set at 133 points. The OVER is 6-3 in Valparaiso's last nine games and 6-1 in George Washington's last seven.
Valparaiso has lost only six games this season, and four of those losses were by six points or fewer. George Washington is playing its best basketball of the season at the right time. This one looks destined to go right down to the wire.
