North Carolina vs. Duke 2016 odds: Blue Devils slim home underdog against Tar Heels

The heated rivalry of the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels continues Saturday with Duke a home underdog.

The Duke Blue Devils are 11-3 straight up and 8-6 against the spread in their last 14 games against the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Blue Devils seek their fifth straight win over their hated rival this Saturday.

Duke is a 1-point home betting underdog on Saturday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The home team opened as a slight favorite, but action on the Tar Heels has moved the line to Duke +1 at home.

With their earlier 74-73 road win over North Carolina, the Blue Devils capped off an impressive 5-0 SU and 3-1 ATS span that included three straight wins over ranked teams, beating Louisville and Virginia at home.

But since that run, the Blue Devils have been plagued by the inconsistency they've dealt with all season, going just 2-2 SU and 1-2-1 ATS with road losses to Louisville and Pittsburgh. Another win over the Tar Heels would end the regular season on the right note.

If the line remains steady, this will be just the eighth time in the last 20 years that the Blue Devils have been a home underdog and the first time since 2012. Duke is 2-5 SU and ATS in those seven instances as a home dog per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.

Through most of the team's 24-6 SU campaign, the North Carolina Tar Heels have looked the part of a dominant team. But through the first 30 games of the regular season, the Tar Heels are just 11-17-2 ATS, including a troubling run of 1-3 SU and ATS in their last four games against ranked opponents.

North Carolina has the firepower to compete with anyone, but has failed to pick up confidence-boosting wins down the stretch, especially on the road.

Saturday night's total is set at 160.5 points. The UNDER is 10-3 in North Carolina's last 13 games and 7-0 in Duke's last seven.

While this has been an extremely close rivalry historically, Duke has taken over control against the Tar Heels in recent seasons. With a win, Duke would lock up its third regular season sweep over North Carolina in the last four seasons.
