Seahawks vs. Falcons 2017 odds: Seattle seeks rare win as playoff road underdog this week

The Seattle Seahawks will be looking for a road upset over the Atlanta Falcons this Saturday afternoon as the teams meet in Divisional round action at the Georgia Dome.

\The Seattle Seahawks are 0-8 straight up and 3-5 against the spread in their last eight games as a road underdog in the postseason. The Seahawks will try to buck that trend as an underdog against the Atlanta Falcons this Saturday.

Seattle is a 4.5-point road underdog in Atlanta at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In the last five meetings between these two teams, the Seahawks are 4-1 ATS.

The Seahawks have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball this season, but everything clicked in a 26-6 win over the Detroit Lions last Saturday at home.

Seattle's defense allowed 24.5 points per game as the team went 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS down the stretch after safety Earl Thomas was lost to injury in Week 13. The defense rebounded with a strong performance against Detroit, but will get a much tougher test this Saturday against the best offense in the NFL.

Over their last 20 games as an underdog of 4.5 points or less, the Seahawks are 10-9-1 SU and 14-5-1 ATS, per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Betting Line / Total: Atlanta -4.5 / 51.5 Points

Trend: The Falcons are 1-5 SU and 0-6 ATS in their last six games in the playoffs.

Trend: The Seahawks are 0-8 SU in their last eight games in the playoffs as road underdogs.

Atlanta averaged 33.8 points per game on offense this season, blowing away the average of the second-place New Orleans Saints by 4.5 points per game. The Falcons finished the regular season on a 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS run, in which they averaged 38.5 points per game and won by an average margin of victory of 19.8 points per game.

Despite all of this and an 11-5 SU and 10-6 ATS record this season, the Falcons are still being overlooked by many fans and bettors. That may be in part due to their 1-5 SU and 0-6 ATS record over their last six postseason games.

Saturday's total is set at 51.5 points. The OVER is 6-0 in Atlanta's last six games and 5-1 in the last six games between these two teams.

A win over a playoff-tested team like Seattle should solidify Atlanta's status as a legitimate contender. On the other hand, a Seahawks win with another strong defensive performance should strike fear into the other teams that remain in the postseason. Both teams have plenty to prove in what should be an interesting game.
