Simply put, France has played the best football in this tournament. It didn’t look dominant in the group stage, defeating Australia and Peru by only one goal and playing to an uneventful 0-0 draw against Denmark. But in the knockout stage, France has been excellent in three straight regulation wins.

The team outlasted Argentina in a 4-3 barn-burner before settling down into two brilliantly defended matches against Uruguay and Belgium. The 1-0 win over Belgium is particularly impressive as it snapped Belgium’s 23-game unbeaten streak and held one of the best offensive teams in the world at bay.

Does this resilient Croatian side have one more upset in them? Down 1-0 after giving up a free kick goal in the fifth minute of its semifinals match against England, the situation looked dire for Croatia. But from the start of the second half until the end of extra time, Croatia controlled the tempo and took the game to England, finding an equalizer in the 68th minute and then getting a go-ahead goal in the 109th minute.

Fatigue could play a factor in this World Cup Final as Croatia has played an extra 90 minutes of soccer in the knockout stage due to three extra time games and has one less day of rest after playing on Wednesday.

Sunday’s total is set at two goals. Croatia has compiled eight straight results with at least two goals scored in regulation.

The pressure hasn’t bothered France so far in the 2018 World Cup, but with the title within its grasp and going off as a heavy chalk favorite, this is the final obstacle. Croatia entered this tournament as a 40/1 underdog to win it and has nothing to lose. This one could end up being more intense than the betting odds predict.
