Now that the chortles over Georgia recruits robbing Georgia's locker room have largely settled, the time has come to examine the ramifications. SB Nation's Dawg Sports doesn't like the bottom-line implications for UGA's future recruiting classes, and they're not wrong, particularly if Deion Bonner turns into a high-level get for some rival school. It's the SEC. Don't even pretend like this might not happen:

These actions were foolish, the ramifications are frustrating, and the situation is sad. While it is doubtful that these young men have squandered altogether their opportunity to play Division I-A college football, they nevertheless have been moved over into the "character risk" column that could cost them scholarship offers; unless Mark Richt is anxious to try forging team unity among athletes who have been suspects and victims in the same criminal proceeding, they certainly have forfeited the opportunity to don the silver britches and play between the hedges.

What that may mean for Georgia, of course, is that, through no fault of the Bulldogs’, Deion Bonner may go on to be some rival school’s recruiting coup. It is a necessity that Georgia jettison these prospects; should that lead them to sign letters of intent to play for other SEC institutions, the Red and Black could be victimized twice by these events, in spite of the fact that no one who is now or ever will be in any way formally affiliated with the University of Georgia did anything even remotely wrong.

Take heart, Dawg partisans: You do still have that sterling 2011 recruiting class to fall back on, with a certain Carver blue-chipper leading the way.
Just when you thought the Georgia football locker room theft story couldn't get more ludicrous, we're throwing a real, actual evil twin into the mix. Because it's Monday and we love you, meet Marqui and Marquise, in this news blip from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

1 UGA theft suspect arrested is NOT prospect. Marquise Hawkins is smaller twin of QB/WR Marqui Hawkins, per Carver coach Dell McGee.

How much smaller? Oh, about 5'3". Pocket twin! Hawkins was clearly used as a spotter by the other two; it'd be a fairly simple operation to boost him up to see through the locker vents. Anyway, the confusion here was over whether Marqui was a nickname for Marquise, but given his size, it's unlikely the latter is being recruited as anything but a gnatback. To clarify! They are two different people, which lowers the number of Georgia football recruits jailed this morning for theft of prospective teammate property to two.

From a pure dramatic perspective, there's only one possible outcome funnier than the possibility of staffers being involved in stealing from Georgia football players' lockers during "faculty appreciation day," and wouldn't you know it, we've hit upon the very thing: The bandits who made off with over $1,000 worth of electronic devices from the Dawgs' locker room were UGA football recruits.

Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald is reporting this morning that warrants have been issued for high school football standouts Deion Bonner, Marquise Hawkins, and another football prospect whose name is being withheld because of his status as a juvenile. All three attend Carver High in Columbus. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer's Seth Emerson adds, "The warrants were signed on Friday and set to be acted on today."

We can imagine the future of these three between the hedges is not a bright one, but Columbus, we feel compelled to note, is located on the Georgia-Alabama border, less than an hour's drive from Auburn University. Is it something in the water down here?

If you haven't made Georgia Bulldogs football news part of your daily sports comedy intake, I cannot recommend it highly enough. For just a sampling, here's Monday's report of an iPod bandit on the loose in the team's locker room. Someone, apparently a football faculty member, made off with over $1,000 worth of Apple electronics from the team's brand new facility equipped with state-of-the-art security.
↵
This particular piece of UGA football news is so bizarre that running through the usual list of jokes -- alley emergence, middle name guesswork, scooter safety -- somehow falls short.
↵
For the latest in Georgia football adventures, visit Dawg Sports and SB Nation Atlanta.
