Shortly before the 2012 ACC Tournament began, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets shooting guard Glen Rice Jr. was involved in a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub and was suspended indefinitely by the team. Now it appears as though his career as a Yellow Jacket has come to an ignominious end.

The Associated Press via SI.com reports that Rice has now been kicked off the team altogether.

Coach Brian Gregory made the announcement Tuesday, less than a week after Rice, a graduate student manager and another person were charged. The 6-foot-5 junior guard will remain enrolled at school and complete his academic requirements for spring semester.

Gregory says "there are certain standards that have to be met both on and off the court, and there has to be accountability when those standards aren't met."

It's safe to say that neither Rice, nor his team, imagined this is the way Georgia Tech's leading scorer and rebounder would end his season and his time at the school.

Georgia Tech shooting guard Glen Rice, Jr. has been charged after a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub that occurred shortly before the ACC Tournament.

Rice was with Georgia Tech student manager London Warren in a Cadillac Escalade. He was charged with permitting unlawful operation, while Warren was charged with DUI. Another passenger, Steven Pryor, was charged with discharging a firearm while under the influence.

Rice remains suspended from Georgia Tech's basketball team stemming from an unspecified violation of team rules in February, while Warren has been dismissed.

Rice was one of Georgia Tech's leaders this season, leading the Yellow Jackets in both points per game with 13 and rebounds per game with 6.7. However, his Georgia Tech career has been pockmarked with disciplinary incidents — both under former coach Paul Hewitt and current coach Brian Gregory — and his future with the team is unclear.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men's basketball team has suspended Glen Rice Jr. indefinitely. Rice is currently leading the team in scoring and rebounds.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have suspended junior swingman Glen Rice Jr., who currently leads the team in both scoring and rebounds.

Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports reports that Yellow Jackets head coach Brian Gregory announced the suspension following practice on Friday. Gregory would not go into specifics about the suspension, but said Rice would not be traveling to Virginia Tech this weekend, as he is suspended indefinitely.

This is the second suspension of the season for Rice. He was previously suspended for the first three games of the season for violating team rules.

Rice is currently averaging 13 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Yellow Jackets will miss his contributions but his suspension is unlikely to make that big of an impact on the school's season overall. Georgia Tech has lost 12 of its last 14 games and are currently 2-9 in ACC play.
