The Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars have completed a blockbuster trade that is centered around Tyler Seguin and Loui Eriksson.

The Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars have completed a substantial trade that is centered around the exchange of Tyler Seguin and Loui Eriksson, according to Darren Dreger of TSN.

Boston will be sending Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button to Dallas for Eriksson, Joe Morrow, Matt Fraser and Reilly Smith.

Seguin has been involved in trade rumors since before the NHL Draft. General manager Peter Chiarelli expressed his disappointment in Seguin and stated that he needed to be a better professional. This was an indication that the organization might have had real intentions to deal Seguin in event of a quality offer presenting itself.

Apparently, Dallas was able to satisfy that need.

Eriksson was a player that had been involved in trade rumors. In fact, Brandon Worley of Defending Big D wrote about the 27-year-old forward's value in May:

Eriksson is one of the top forwards in the NHL, he's under contract for three more seasons at a ridiculously low price and from what we understand his no-trade clause does not begin until the 2013-2014 season. This makes Eriksson an incredibly valuable trade target and could be part of a trade that completely alters the course of this franchise.

Make no mistake, any trade involving Loui Eriksson would be one hell of a blockbuster.

Blockbuster, indeed.

Seguin now becomes the highest paid player on the Stars (in terms of his annual average value) and has five years remaining on a six-year, $34.5 million contract. Peverley still has two years remaining on a three-year, $9.75 million deal.

The 27-year-old Eriksson has three years remaining on a six-year, $25.5 million contract, while Smith and Fraser still have one year remaining on their deals. They both will be restricted free agents next summer.

The Boston Bruins have been looking to trade Tyler Seguin, according to rumors. Apparently, the club might have found a willing partner in the Dallas Stars.

UPDATE: The deal appears official now, with details here.

The Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars are working toward a trade that would be centered around Loui Eriksson and Tyler Seguin, according to Darren Dreger of TSN on Thursday afternoon.

It remains unclear how far along negotiations are at this time.

However, rumors about Seguin have been circulating since before the NHL Draft, and general manager Peter Chiarelli stated earlier this week that he believed Seguin needed to become a better professional. In essence, Chiarelli didn't sound too pleased with his young forward.

Eriksson has also been a name rumored as potentially available. Dallas has been active in offseason free agent chatter and was believed to be a favorite to land Vincent Lecavalier. Ultimately, that proved not to be the case. New general manager Jim Nill is evidently ready to make some changes in Dallas. A potential swap of Eriksson for Seguin would certainly achieve that.
