The Timbers kicked off by taking Jack Jewsbury of Sporting Kansas City and the Whitecaps followed up by taking the Seattle Sounders' Brad Evans.
3. Timbers: Ryan Cochrane, DF, Houston Dynamo
Chopping Timber: Another under exploited player from Houston who also happens to be a Portland local. He is a larger player who has plenty of experience managing the backline of both the San Jose Earthquakes and Houston. Also his experience with Timbers coach John Spencer should be counted for.
4. Whitecaps: Collins John, FW, Chicago Fire
86 Forever: Whitecaps coach Teitur Thordarson has a good history of getting production from head cases: he's done it before with the likes of Charles Gbeke, and there's no reason he couldn't do it with a guy of John's experience. More to the point, John is a magnificently experienced and talented professional striker. His first season in Chicago was a disappointment to all concerned, but his skill is undeniable and he gives the Whitecaps some athleticism and finishing punch they desperately need.
