It appeared to be all but over for Tottenham Hotspur, who threw caution to the wind at the end of their game to try to find an equalizer. Shifting to a 3-5-2 formation with Aaron Lennon on the left and Alan Hutton abandoning defensive responsibilities on the right wing, Newcastle had plenty of chances to put the game away against Spurs, but failed to take them. They came to regret their poor finishing, as Tottenham equalized.
In the 90th minute, Michael Dawson sent a long ball up towards Peter Crouch, who did what he does best, knocking the ball down to Jermain Defoe. Defoe laid the ball off to the left, to Lennon. Lennon cut inside on his favored right foot, beat two defenders, and finished past Steven Harper at his near post.
It was hard on Newcastle and Fabricio Coloccini, who probably deserved the winning goal, but Spurs will be very happy with their late comeback and stolen point at St. James' Park.
