Birmingham City has picked up a relatively early second half goal, cutting their deficit to West Ham in half, evening today's match at one. The two-legged tie now stands a 3-2, West Ham after Lee Bowyer's 14-yard left-footer rocketed into the upper-left corner of Robert Green's net.
The goal comes off a corner kick, and out-swinging ball that dropped near the spot. There, Nicola Zigic headed a ball down toward the right side of the box. Bowyer came on, beating Zavon Hines to ball, putting his first touch into the net, with the defender at West Ham's left post helpless to defend a ball that went in less than a foot above his head.
The 59th minute goal leaves Birmingham half an hour to find an equalizer. Should they do so, the match will see extra time before a potential penalty kick shout-out. Should West Ham hold this lead, they will mean Arsenal in the Carling Cup final.
