Sergio Busquets Cleared By UEFA On Racism Charge

The racism charge against Barcelona's Sergio Busquets has been thrown out by UEFA because of a lack of evidence. UEFA released the following statement on their website explaining their decision.

The chairman of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body, acting as a judge sitting alone, has today decided to dismiss the complaint lodged by Real Madrid CF for racial abuse against its player Marcelo by FC Barcelona player Sergio Busquets in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg between the clubs in Madrid on 27 April, due to a lack of strong and convincing evidence.

Real Madrid has brought video evidence against Busquets to UEFA, accusing the defender of calling Madrid midfielder Marcelo a "mono" (monkey) during the team's Champions League semifinal first leg.

Earlier this week Barca manager Pep Guardiola defended Busquets saying he has "known Sergio for a long time and if he tells me something I believe him because I know him."

With the charge dropped, Busquets is now cleared to participate in the Champions League Final on May 28th.
