Sergio 'Kun' Aguero's announcement that he'd be leaving Atletico Madrid as soon as possible was not exactly done with the prior consent of the team. Club president Enrique Cerezo has insisted that the Argentinian forward is by no means for sale, and now Atletico have offered Aguero a new contract in hopes of convincing him to stay. According to AS, the new offer stands at an eye-watering €9M per year, which seems more than a little excessive for a club of Atletico's stature.
With Diego Forlan potentially heading to greener/more Dubai-ish pastures, and 20 year-old goalkeeper David de Gea definitely Manchester United-bound, one can hardly blame Atletico for trying to keep hold of one of the few talented players they have left. But as Aguero said, this isn't about money, and even €9M a season may not do the trick - if he truly does want to leave for career reasons.
