After a bit of a hang-up that reportedly had to do with a contract dispute, the Colorado Rapids have officially signed Argentine Martin Rivero on a loan. New Rapids coach Óscar Pareja has long indicated that he was looking for more of a playmaking central midfielder than currently resides on the roster. Rivero would seem to fit that bill.
"Martín is a young, dynamic player with a great deal of potential," Pareja said in a team release. "His creativity and technical ability will give us more options in attack, and we’re excited to welcome him to the club."
Rivero, 22, has spent his entire professional career with Rosario Central in Argentina, making his first-division debut when he was 18. More recently, he has played more extensively with the team after it was relegated to the second division. Last year, he made 30 appearances, including 16 starts, and scored four goals.
