MLS 2012, Midweek 14 Preview And Fixtures: Hooray For A Euro-Less Wednesday Of MLS Matches

MLS has a slew of midweek matches and no Euro matches to compete with. Come to me, my MLS sweetheart.

You wanted MLS to take off for internationals? You got it. Your reward is a bunch of midweek matches. Hooray! And with Euro having no matches on Wednesday the soccer world might care a little. Double hooray!

Real Salt Lake vs. LA Galaxy

Wednesday, 9:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

A year ago this would have been must-see soccer, but now it's the best in the Western Conference versus one of the worst. Is it still must-see soccer? Not if Chad Barrett plays as a lone striker again. Oh, please soccer gods, let anything else happen.

Pick: Salt Lake, 2-0.

Houston Dynamo vs. Toronto FC

Wednesday, 9:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Nobody who watches the Dynamo thinks they are halfway decent, but their place in the standings say otherwise. Nobody who watches TFC thinks they are not the worst thing ever, and their place in the standings says exactly that.

Pick: Poor Toronto

Colorado Rapids vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Which Rapids team is going to show up this week? They might be the most confusing team in MLS, but there is no confusing the Quakes -- they are good.

Pick: San Jose, 2-1.

Seattle Sounders vs. Sporting Kansas City

Wednesday, 10:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

How long without a win must a team go because they are in a tailspin? What if that team is really good? Incredibly, the Sounders are forcing us to answer those questions. They haven't won a league match since April 9 and that included an embarrassing 4-1 loss to the Impact over the weekend. Whatever the definition of tailspin is, the Sounders will be in one if they lose to Sporting, and they will tell you as much. After all, they invented the definition.

Pick: Draw, 1-1.

Chivas USA vs. Montreal Impact

Wednesday, 10:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Red and white versus blue! American versus Canada! Real army versus Mounties! Wait, the red and white are faux Mexicans and the blue are the Canadians?

Pick: Chivas, 1-0.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. New York Red Bulls

Wednesday, 11:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

I suppose the Whitecaps are legitimately good. That's weird. They might even be the best team in Cascadia. That's even weirder.

Pick: Vancouver, 2-0.
