U.S. Open Cup 2012: Semifinal Pairings Announced

If they can advance to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals, MLS teams will host all of their semifinal matchups.

Presswire

Barring a pair of colossal upsets, MLS teams will host both U.S. Open Cup semifinals this year. The Seattle Sounders, Philadelphia Union and San Jose Earthquakes would each be guaranteed a home game if they win their quarterfinal matches.

Sporting Kansas City would host only if the Harrisburg City Islanders upset the Philadelphia Union, while Chivas USA is the only MLS team guaranteed to go on the road if they win.

The only way a MLS team won't be hosting a semifinal is if both Harrisburg and the Dayton Dutch Lions win their games. In that scenario, Harrisburg would host.

Unlike the previous rounds of the U.S. Open Cup, the semifinals were determined by a blind bid. Simply put, teams that bid more money were given the right to host.
