Parma vs. Bologna: Final score 1-1, Bologna hang on for point in derby

Parma dominated the Emilian derby after Bologna’s Frederik Sørensen was sent off early in the second half, though were left frustrated in a 1-1 draw.

Parma were left frustrated in Saturday's Derby dell'Emilia, unable to defeat their local rivals Bologna despite dominating throughout the second half of their clash at the Ennio Tardini. The rossoblù had defender Frederik Sørensen sent off early in the second half, though ten men proved sufficient to hold onto a point. The draw doesn't do much for either side, with Parma staying comfortably in mid-table, and Bologna moving provisionally a couple of points clear of the relegation zone.

It was Bologna who made the better start to the game, with Archimede Morleo's cross from the left causing problems inside the opening five minutes. Fortunately for Parma, Rolando Bianchi was too late arriving at the back post to make contact with the ball. However, their relief didn't last long. After just 10 minutes Bologna were ahead, with scorer of spectacular goals Panagiotis Kone maintaining his reputation with a perfectly-placed volley from the edge of the area.

Gradually Parma improved, and started to up the pressure on their Bolognese visitors. Antonio Cassano almost netted the equaliser inside 20 minutes, though after being laid off on the edge of the area by Marco Marchionni, he curled his shot wide of the top corner. Five minutes later, he made amends. Some terrible marking from the rossoblù allowed FantAntonio to meet Nicola Sansone's free-kick in space at the near post, spectacularly volleying the ball over Gianluca Curci and under the bar for 1-1.

From then on Bologna were largely reduced to playing on the counter-attack, with the crociati in control. On a quick break Lazaros Christodoulopoulos forced Parma keeper Antonio Mirante into tipping the ball over the bar, though the remainder of what became a scrappy half saw neither side create many good scoring opportunities.

Parma came out for the second half looking much better than their opponents, who found themselves a man short within ten minutes of the restart. Defender Frederik Sørensen tripped winger Nicola Sansone on the edge of the Bologna penalty area, picking up a second yellow card and handing the crociati a handy numerical advantage. They continued to surge forward, with the home crowd ever more expectant.

However, Bologna's defence just about held firm in the face of a constant crociati barrage. Goalkeeper Curci was forced into a great save on full-back Mattia Cassani's shot with just over 20 minutes left, before Sansone's long-range drive from distance skimmed the top of the crossbar. Despite totally dominating, Parma's breakthrough wasn't forthcoming. The Emilian derby ended all square, but with one team considerably more satisfied than the other.
