Chelsea vs. Liverpool: Preview and TV schedule

Third meet fourth in the Premier League on Sunday, as Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.

Warren Little

The Premier League schedulers have saved the best until last this weekend, with third-placed Chelsea playing fourth-placed Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. The Blues picked up a 1-0 win over Swansea City on Boxing Day, and are now just a couple of points adrift of league leaders Arsenal. They're unbeaten at Stamford Bridge so far this season, and could move top of the table with another victory.

Liverpool are a point further back after they stuttered against Manchester City on Boxing Day. Their 2-1 defeat was their first in four matches, continuing their shaky form on the road. Brendan Rodgers' side have won just three times away from Anfield this season, and once in their last five. Given Chelsea's strong home record, there's no doubt they are early favourites.

José Mourinho will be unable to select Marco van Ginkel, Ryan Bertrand and Ramires through a mix of injury and suspension, though Liverpool's list of absentees is more problematic. Rodgers will be without important first-teamers Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge, while José Enrique, Jon Flanagan and Sebastián Coates are still sidelined.

Chelsea injuries and suspensions

Out: Marco van Ginkel (knee), Ryan Bertrand (knee), Ramires (suspended). In doubt: None.

Liverpool injuries and suspensions

Out: Sebastián Coates (knee), José Enrique (knee), Daniel Sturridge (ankle), Steven Gerrard (hamstring), Jon Flanagan (hamstring). In doubt: None.
