Mario Götze has played his final match for Borussia Dortmund after it was announced by the club today that the attacking midfielder will not be available for Saturday's UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Götze sustained further damage to the injured hamstring muscle during training yesterday and will be unable to play in the final. Götze spoke briefly with the Dortmund website expressing his support for his teammates.

"That final was my goal, and I've hard in recent weeks struggled. I'm incredibly sorry for not being able to help the team in this important game. I have full confidence in our team and will travel course to London to support off the field after forces the guys,"

The 20-year-old German star will be moving to Bayern Munich this summer after Dortmund's rivals triggered his €37 million release clause. Götze scored 19 goals for BVB this year but had been struggling to recover for the final after injuring his hamstring in Dortmund's semifinal second leg match against Real Madrid.

Head coach Jürgen Klopp now faces a tactical challenge as he attempts to adjust his lineup to account for Götze's absence.
