Madrid finishing off Schalke 04 in style with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday at the Bernabéu. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and Álvaro Morata added a goal as Los Blancos rolled to a ridiculous 9-2 aggregate victory. The celebrations were muted by an injury to Jesé, however, with early reports suggesting possible ACL damage.

Things got off to a miserable start for Real Madrid in the second minute when Schalke's Sead Kolasinac knocked down Jesé with a hard shoulder charge from behind. In the process, Kolasinac lost his balance and fell, with all his weight landing on Jesé's right knee. The young striker was stretchered off and, after walking around a bit on the sideline, was carried off the pitch towards the dressing room. Gareth Bale took his place in the match.

Bale made an impact in 21st minute, working his way into the right side of the Schalke box before centering to Cristiano Ronaldo. The Schalke defense could do nothing to cut off the pass, allowing Ronaldo to open up his body and tap the ball past Ralf Fährmann to go up 1-0 on the day.

Morata should have added another goal to the scoreboard in the 28th minute when once again Bale shredded the Schalke defense and sent another perfectly placed pass to the center of the box. Morata's shot was poor, however, going well off target.

Schalke managed to get a goal in the 31st minute when Tim Hoogland cut through the Madrid midfield and sent a speculative shot towards goal that took a massive deflection off the boot of Sergio Ramos. The ball careened left as Iker Casillas went right, ruining the clean sheet and evening the match at 1-1.

The second half appeared to be cruising to a calm and uneventful resolution when, for no apparent reason, Madrid decided to start scoring again with fewer than 20 minutes to play. Ronaldo went first in the 74th minute with his second goal of the match, and then nearly completed the hat trick a minute later. Instead, his shot hammered off the crossbar and fell right to Morata who finished off the rebound.
