Bologna vs Parma, final score 1-1: Emilia-Romagna derby ends all square

Parma pegged Bologna back to earn a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

Raffaele Palladino cancelled out Niccolo Cherubin's opener to keep Parma in the hunt for Europe and leave Bologna looking over their shoulders at the relegation places.

Bologna were without Rene Krhin, Jose Crespo and Francesco Della Rocca. An ankle injury kept Antonio Cassano out, but he made the trip to sit in the stands. Marco Parolo was suspended for the visitors. Amauri and captain Alessandro Lucarelli returned from suspension, but the former had to be content with a place on the bench. Walter Gargano was back after missing five games through injury.

Cesare Natali headed wide from a Panagiotis Kone free kick in the opening minutes. Overall, Bologna's final ball into the box was lacking. On the other hand, Gargano was the danger man for the visitors. The Uruguayan's high ball picked out Ezequiel Schelotto in the box, but Cherubin dispossessed him after the Parma man needed a touch to chest the ball down.

Parma had a goal chalked off on 25 minutes. Palladino slotted in a Mattia Cassani cross from six yards, but play was called back for a combination of a tight offside and a foul by Jonathan Biabiany in the buildup.

Bologna had penalty appeals waved away two minutes later, when Lazaros Christodoulopoulos went down under Afriye Acquah. Parma continued to ask the questions. Cherubin stuck out a leg to stop Acquah from converting a side footed effort, while Gabriel Paletta headed just over. Biabiany teed up Cristian Molinaro to slice high and wide from the edge of the box.

Bologna came back into the game in the final five minutes of the first half. Jonathan Cristaldo peeled off Lucarelli and found space in the box, only to drag a disappointing shot wide. Kone then inexplicably ballooned over from 12 yards after Archimede Morleo ran into the box and pulled back for his teammate.

The hosts opened the scoring right on half time. Cherubin controlled Christodoulopoulos' free kick and held off Paletta in the box, before turning and shooting into the top corner for his first goal of the season. He celebrated by holding up the jersey of injured teammate Della Rocca.

Straight after the break, a poor first touch from Erik Friberg prevented the Bologna man with a clear run at goal and allowed Lucarelli to clear. Morleo caught Schelotto napping in the box and stole away from his marker to send a header straight at Antonio Mirante.

Lucarelli almost equalised, but couldn't direct his header towards goal when he jumped to meet Gargano's free kick. The defender prevented Bologna from wrapping the game up on the hour when he blocked Cristaldo's effort on the line.

The visitors spurned a couple of chances as time ticked away. Biabiany rolled back for Gargano to lift a shot over, before Biabiany's glancing header was comfortably saved by Gianluca Curci.

Parma finally found an equaliser on 79 minutes. Palladino had switched to a wide position after having no joy leading the line. He met Biabiany's cross with a volley into the ground which sailed past Curci and nestled into the far corner.

Both sides had chances to snatch the win late on. Gianni Munari swept up to prevent Kone from getting on the end of a dangerous Christodoulopoulos cross, before Kone sent a free kick into the Parma wall. Amauri blasted a shot over the bar and Mirante denied Robert Acquafresca after palming the substitute's effort wide.
