Birmingham City needed a draw on the final day to avoid relegation to League One, but they fell behind 2-0 to Bolton. They were able to get one goal back, but going into stoppage time, they still needed a goal or they would be out of the Championship.
And they got it.
So that is what avoiding relegation looks like -- downright nuts. And amazing.
Three seasons ago, Birmingham were in the Premier League,. Two seasons ago, they were in the promotion playoffs. Now, they are celebrating barely not being bad enough to go down to the third division.
And yet, any fan completely understands the excitement of the Birmingham supporters. In that moment, their club had done the impossible. They were staying up. They could live to see another season in the Championship. In the grand scheme of things, to even be in that situation could make any fan cynical, but for one day at Bolton, it played out exactly as it was supposed too -- dramatic, successful and an incredible memory.
Sports are the best.
