La Liga, Round 36 review: Chaos at the top of the table as all three title chasers drop points

Atlético Madrid lost. Real Madrid and Barcelona drew. Apparently everyone wants to make the final two weeks interesting.

It was quite the weekend in Spain, so let's get right down to business and review everything that happened in round 36 of La Liga.

First up, congratulations to Atheltic Bilbao who clinched fourth place and their first trip to the Champions League since 1999 thanks to a 3-0 win on Friday over Rayo Vallecano. It's a tremendous accomplishment for Ernesto Valverde's team, especially considering their struggles last year, where they flirted with relegation until late in the season.

Things got just a bit more interesting in the title race as all three contenders dropped points. Atlético Madrid looked sluggish and tired in a 2-0 loss against Levante, and Real Madrid followed up with a lackluster performance of their own, needing a spectacular stoppage time equalizer from Cristiano Ronaldo to salvage a draw against Valencia. The day before on Saturday, Barcelona were tripped up in stoppage time by Getafe, and also had to to settle for a draw.

Those results leave Atleéti still in control on their title fate, needing four points from their final two matches to secure the title. Real Madrid have to win their final three games -- they have an extra midweek match this week thanks to a postponed match from last month -- and hope Atléti to lose one of their final two games. There is also a scenario for Barca to win the title that involves Madrid dropping points, and the Blaugrana winning out, including a defeat of Atléti on the season's final day.

The relegation battle remained tight with six teams still not safe. Almeria got a huge win over Real Betis that moved them out of the drop zone, while Osasuna's loss against Celta Vigo dropped them down to 19th. Real Valladolid sits in 18th, while Elche, Málaga, Granada and Getafe remain above the drop zone, but not mathematically safe.

Needless to say, it's going to be a wild final two weeks of the season.

Here's all the result from round 36 in Spain.
