Honduras score, Ecuador respond almost immediately

It looked like the entire match was set to be more about off the ball fouls than about scoring prowess. Then, Carlo Costly fired Honduras ahead. The long ball came through from defense, flying across the pitch to where Costly had slipped behind the Ecuador defense. His left-footed shot easily flew past Alexander Domínguez.

It took Ecuador just three minutes to respond. A bit of tricky footwork from Juan Paredes allowed him to get a shot off, but it deflected off Jorge Claros. Enner Valencia, lurking by the far post, got his toe to the ball to put Ecuador level.
