Manchester City have completed the signing of Porto's French defender Eliaquim Mangala. The centre-back becomes the Citizens' sixth summer signing, and had previously been linked with some of Europe's other biggest clubs, including City's cross-town rivals Manchester United.
Widely regarded as one of the finest defensive talents in the world at the moment, the 23-year-old said:
"City is a top club in Europe. For me, it was an important step to leave Porto and join Manchester City in order to continue my progress. I want to win titles and I believe I can do this. I am ambitious and this is why I am here."
Interestingly, City boss Manuel Pellegrini added that he felt Mangala could make an "immediate impact" in the Premier League. That suggests he'll be doing battle with the likes of Martín Demichelis and Matija Nastasić for a starting spot alongside captain Vincent Kompany in the upcoming season.
With City now looking pretty well-stocked in defence, a departure could well be on the cards.
