Inter Milan are reportedly on the brink of signing Newcastle United defender Davide Santon. The 24-year-old Italian international moved to England from the nerazzurri in 2011, but four years on, he could be heading back whence he came. This news comes courtesy of Sky Sports' Pete Graves, who tweeted:

This would actually be a good signing for Inter, who have made a habit of signing pretty average, old players since they won the Champions League under José Mourinho. Santon, however, is still young enough to develop into a very good defender, and providing he manages to get himself fighting fit, will be a valuable asset for Roberto Mancini's side.

Newcastle, meanwhile, won't be too disappointed either -- they've had to do without Santon throughout the entire season thanks to a series of injury setbacks. It's rare that a deal works well for everyone involved, but this one may just fit the bill.
