Neymar received a red card in Brazil's Copa America group stage loss to Colombia on Wednesday, and his actions are going to keep him out of the rest of the tournament. On Friday, CONMEBOL announced that Neymar would be suspended for four games. That means Neymar cannot play again in Copa America, even if Brazil makes the final.
It's a massive reversal from Friday morning's revelation that Neymar's initial two-game ban had been reduced. However, CONMEBOL's disciplinary tribunal met on Friday and came to a different conclusion, apparently based on Neymar abusing the referee, not just his on-pitch actions.
Conmebol decision also apparently based on fact Neymar chased referee down the tunnel to confront him, and insulted him.— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) June 19, 2015
So far in this tournament, Neymar has been just about Brazil's only bright spot. They've built their team around him entirely and have been unable to do anything dangerous that he wasn't directly involved in. Their manager, Dunga, has a very tough task ahead of him, and Brazil won't be considered favorites to win the tournament without their best player.
