Mexico are, as usual, co-favorites with the United States to win the Gold Cup. It would be very surprising to see anyone else make the final, especially with Costa Rica missing key players, but El Tri aren't at their best right now. They drew Los Ticos in their last friendly, and they'll still working out their lineup heading into this friendly against Honduras.
As usual, Honduras are strong competition for CONCACAF's elite, but not quite at their level. There's a very good chance that these two teams could meet in the knockout stages, but Honduras are likely to be in the other half of the bracket, so they're a good side for Mexico to test themselves against.
Mexico lost Hector Moreno to an injury in their last game, and will have to play the Gold Cup without him. In his absence, they look likely to make a switch to a 4-4-2 formation. And even if they weren't planning on making that change permanent, a pre-Gold Cup friendly against Honduras is a good spot to test out something different.
