Mexico usually coast through the Gold Cup group stages, but they're faced with a tricky task on Wednesday night. In order to win their group, they need to grab all three points against Trinidad and Tobago.
Guatemala grabbed a surprise point against El Tri in the second round of group stages, and it was a shocking result. They're almost certainly the worst team in the history of the tournament to take points off the U.S. or Mexico in a Gold Cup group stage before one of the big teams had clinched first place.
While Mexico struggle, T&T have been very solid. They didn't lay the same beating on Cuba that Mexico did, but they also faced a stronger Cuba side after some of their players arrived to the tournament late. There's no reason this game should be a walkover for Mexico, though El Tri should be considered favorites to win this game and the group.
Mexico will be tempted to make big changes to their lineup after their poor showing against Guatemala. They looked better once Carlos Esquivel and Giovani dos Santos came on while Hector Herrera moved inside, so Miguel Herrera will have to consider those changes against Trinidad and Tobago.
